Remi and Mahmood are best friends from college who were paired together by a lottery roommate system while at Vanderbilt. While in college, they realized health was something they were passionate about, but without the proper knowledge or resources, it seemed to be something that was out of reach. As the two graduated and went their separate ways, Remi as a law student in Los Angeles and Mahmood as a consultant in New York living out of a suitcase, they both faced their own health challenges.
OUR MEAL PREP STORY
Traveling for work meant ordering take-out 7 days a week. I knew generally that cooking at home was better, but didn’t think I could make it work with my busy schedule. Once the traveling eased up, I tried cooking healthier meals and had some success, but it was short lived. I was tired of eating the same meal over and over, and wasn’t sure what else to add.
After college I moved to LA where everyone is crazy about fitness. I felt LA’s pressure of getting fit, but it was especially hard since classes took up most of my day and I only had time to eat fast food. I joined a gym, got a personal trainer, and started to do what everyone else was doing – eating salads and going on juice cleanses. It wasn’t until much later when I started researching more into healthful eating that I realized the value of tracking everything I eat since I couldn’t outwork a bad diet.
We both knew we needed to make a change in our eating habits. And then we discovered meal prepping. We had constantly seen our friends post pictures of their meal prep days on social media, but we didn’t realize it was the key to changing our lives until we actually started meal prepping.
Before starting, we had a general idea about what we should be eating, but learning how to measure ingredients, count calories, and track macronutrients were the biggest challenges. Our meal portions would be off, we thought all we could eat were salads, and we ultimately got frustrated because there was no simple solution to meal prepping. We became frustrated, so we made it a mission to learn about nutrition and how to properly meal prep. After practicing and practicing, meal prep Sunday became a breeze.
With the results we were seeing, we decided we wanted to help make the world a little bit better, one meal prep Sunday at a time.
We realized that meal prepping is not a diet, but a lifestyle. We have full control and awareness of what we eat, we simplify reaching our fitness goals, we save time and money by cooking once per week, and we learn how to cook delicious and healthy meals! We are passionate about meal prepping, so we decided to put together a meal prep kit to help you on your fitness journey.
